Klaus Lesker appointed new Member of the Executive Board of MAN Ferrostaal
20.03.2006 -
Dr. Klaus Lesker (46) has been appointed by the Supervisory Board of MAN Ferrostaal AG as a member of the Executive Board of the company effective 1 May 2006. Lesker will take over as head of the Services Division and in this area build up the MAN service platform which will help MAN Ferrostaal to support and coordinate international business in the sales offices of the other MAN affiliate companies - especially in those countries in which the other MAN companies are not represented with their own overseas organisation.
MAN Ferrostaal has subsidiaries in 60 countries and is opening the doors to other MAN affiliate companies in many countries by utilising the international connections it has had for many years in order to establish new business for affiliates - primarily Latin America, Asia, Africa and the near and middle east. In addition, the company is integrating the products of other MAN affiliate companies into its projects. Lesker will systematise and build up these activities in the future.
This involves the field of business development in which Lesker will guide project development both strategically and operationally. Furthermore, Lesker will head up the machine and ship business as well as the company's offset activities. By doing so, emphasis will be placed on the sale of transport systems, industry and printing machines.
Dr. Matthias Mitscherlich, Chairman of the Management Board of MAN Ferrostaal, called the appointment of Lesker a strategic step: “With Klaus Lesker, we have gained an internationally experienced manager who is used to implementing a broad spectrum of sales activities. His 16 years of experience in all regions of the world fit perfectly with the international positioning of our company. He will expand our core business worldwide, particularly in the field of machines and transport. In addition to reducing marginal activities, this strengthening of our core areas is the most important component of our corporate strategy.”
After studying process engineering and completing his doctorate, Lesker began his career with plant builder Uhde in Dortmund, Germany, where he established a worldwide sales organisation through his numerous managing positions, including director of the energy and environment division, contracting manager, most recently as sales division manager. While working for another plant builder, Lurgi, as chairman of the management board, he founded the strategic Life Science business division and restructured the German and overseas offices. In his last function as chairman of the management board at Pharmaplan GmbH, a subsidiary of Fresenius AG, he carried out mergers and restructurings. With his switch to MAN Ferrostaal, he will return to his original field of machine and plant construction.
