History

Since 75 years we are renowned for internationality and extensive know-how

MAN Ferrostaal, originating from the Dutch company Ferrostaal N.V. and the German company Gutehoffnungshütte Aktienverein für Bergbau und Hüttenbetrieb (GHH), has developed into an industrial service provider with an international distribution network.

 

1920

Foundation of Ferrostaal N.V. in The Hague as a commercial trading company for steel products.

1921

Participation of Gutehoffnungshütte in Ferrostaal N.V. and expansion of trade business

1926

Gutehoffnungshütte acquires shares in Ferrostaal N.V. and builds the latter into its commercial trading company

1930

Entry into the Essen Register of Companies as "Ferrostaal AG"

1930 - 1934

Establishing foreign representations in Dutch India, Argentinia, Uruguay, Peru and Chile as well as sales offices in New York and Shanghai

1936

First compensation contract: In exchange against sheep wool Ferrostaal supplied railway material, rails and railway cars for the Iranian government

From 1934

Expansion of the sales organisation to cover Bolivia, Ecuador, Columbia, Brazil and Venezuela. Start-up of operating activities in China, Greece, Turkey and Iran.

1943

Destruction of the Essen administration building as a result of an air raid

1945

Resumption of operating activities in temporary offices

1949

Reconstruction of the administrative building at Huyssenallee, Essen

1950 - 1960

Expansion of the business relationships to cover Latin America, Africa, Asia and Eastern Europe

1963

First large-scale projects in plant construction: Steel works and copper refinery in Chile; cement factory in Nigeria

1968

Cooperation with HDW Werft in Kiel. Ferrostaal becomes a sales partner for frigates and submarines

1987

First large-scale projects for the petrochemical industry in Venezuela and Chile

1990

Takeover of Fritz Werner GmbH, Geisenheim

1991

First petrochemical plants in Trinidad and Tobago

1996

Building up services for the automotive  industry

2004

Name of Ferrostaal AG changed to MAN Ferrostaal AG

2005

Commissioning the world's largest methanol plant in Trinidad and Tobago

2006

- MAN Ferrostaal develops itself to sales and distribution platform of the MAN Group.
- MAN Ferrostaal realigns steel business
- Sale of Takraf conveyor technique
- Acquisition of pulp business of RWE
- Acquisition of Eurotecnica Melamine S.A. (ETM).

2007

Strategic repositioning:
- Concentration of company actitivities
- New business areas Solar and Biofuels
- Completion of steel business realignment through transfer of steel-trading unit to CCC Steel GmbH & Co. KG

Major order in Petrochemicals for a plant to produce Ammonia, Urea and Melamin. Ordervolume: 1,1 Billion US Dollar
